Monitoring and Reporting Requirements Not Met for the Merchantville Pennsauken Water Commission

Our water system violated drinking water requirements over the past year. Even though it is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we did to correct the situation.

For more information, please contact Richard Spafford at 856-663-0043 or 6751 Westfield Avenue in Pennsauken, NJ.

We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether our drinking water meets health standards. During the first quarter of 2024, we sampled for Total Trihalomethanes and Halocetic Acids in March instead of February as required.  We completed all four quarterly monitoring tests; however the samples were taken late and the results were submitted to the State late.

The table below lists the contaminant(s) we did not properly monitor and report during the last year, how often and when we are supposed to sample, how many samples we are required to collect, how many samples we took, and if applicable, the date on which follow-up samples were (or will be) taken.

What should I do?

There is nothing you need to do.  All water tests came back below NJDEP standards.

However, if you have specific health concerns, a severely compromised immune system, have an infant, are pregnant, or are elderly, you may be at higher risk than other individuals and should seek advice from your health care providers about drinking this water.

What is being done?

The quarterly sample was collected but was collected in March instead of February of 2024.  All compliance schedules are being followed.

For more information, please contact Richard Spafford at 856-663-0043 or 6751 Westfield Avenue, Pennsauken, NJ.

This notice is being sent to you by the Merchantville Pennsauken Water Commission, Water System ID#: NJ0424001.

The Merchantville Pennsauken Water Commission (Commission), located at 4400 Frosthoffer Avenue, Pennsauken Township, Camden County, New Jersey, is providing notice of its intent to develop and implement an environmental infrastructure project, more specifically, the construction of Browning Road Treatment Plant Improvements, which will add treatment to the existing plant consisting of Advanced Oxidation and Granular Activated Carbon. The approximate construction cost budget for this project is $10,300,000.00.

The Commission is requesting funding assistance from the New Jersey Water Bank Program for the project.  The NJDEP has approved the environmental review of the project.

Planning and environmental decision documents are available for review at the Commission’s office, 6751 Westfield Avenue, Pennsauken Township, New Jersey.

The Commission owns and operates the water treatment plant Commission Service Area.  The service area is comprised of Merchantville Borough and the majority of Pennsauken Township, and portions Cherry Hill and Camden.

New Jersey Assembly Bill 5343 requires all water systems to inventory and replace lead service lines. The majority of our service lines are copper. However, we are required to provide an accurate inventory of the various service line types on the customer owned portion of the service for our entire service area.

It is very important that we complete our inventory so that we can finalize plans for the next phase of the project.

If you have not already done so, you can help us by reporting the type of water line coming into your property.  If you know what kind of pipes you have (copper, plastic, galvanized steel, lead, etc.) you can call our office and report the information to one of our Customer Support Reps.  You can also visit our website at www.mpwc.com for valuable information and pictures to assist you with identifying your water service line and service line type.

If you are unsure, you may schedule an appointment with a Service Technician, or you can snap a photo of the pipe coming into the property that connects to your water meter.

Send your photos along with your

property address to: info@mpwc.com

or call us at: 856-663-0043

We thank you for your continued cooperation as we work to meet the state’s deadline for confirming our system inventory and continuing to provide the best quality water possible.
