About Your Meter
Most residential meters are located either inside of your property (basement, crawlspace, laundry area, kitchen etc.) or outside at the curb. If you have a Remote Read Device, please be aware that this is NOT your water meter. It is simply a device that attaches to your water meter by a wire and allows us to collect readings without the need to enter your property each quarter. On occasion, the MPWC needs to verify that your remote is properly communicating with your water meter and may ask that you provide us with both readings for a comparison, or we may ask that you allow our Service Technician access to verify the readings. Please be aware that you are required to pay for all water that passes through your water meter.
Many of our customers now have radio read meters installed at their properties. Our newest technology allows us to obtain accurate readings via radio wave without the need to enter your property and without the need for a remote device on the outside of your property.
Reading Your Meter
Currently, we’re in the process of installing new meters across the service area which includes Pennsauken, Merchantville, Cam-den, and Cherry Hill. These newer meters give us the reading with radio waves to the meter reader’s hand-held devices. Due to their energy saving display, you must shine a flashlight onto a spot on the meter, indicated with the red circle, to activate the display.
The meter measures in cubic feet; however, the MPWC bills per 100 cubic feet. Using the reading in the yellow box as an example, the meter reads 005596.812 or 5596.812 cubic feet. That would translate to 55.96 blocks of water.
Older meters are usually accompanied by a remote attachment, so we can read it from the outside of your home or business quarterly, it is very important that the inside meter (left) matches your remote (right), if there is any discrepancy between your remote and your inside meter, it is imperative that we get inside the property to change it to a radio meter. Ultimately, you are responsible for the water that passes through your inside meter for correct billing.
The numbers in white ARE your blocks of usage because they reflect per 100 cubic feet. Most meters have 4 white dials; however, some meters have 3 white dials or 5 white dials. This meter currently reads 328 blocks of usage or 32800 cubic feet of usage, and it does match its remote attachment.
If there is a problem with your readings, please contact the MPWC at 856-663-0043 immediately so that any issues may be resolved.
